Breakfast, service, and ambiance is second to none! I love Giant Chef! I've been coming here for years, with my Grandpa and my good friends. I highly recommend Giant Chef. It's still great food at a reasonable price
A nice surprise to find another old-school independent diner here while we were visiting. The vibe was great: scrubbed- clean feeling, comfortable and spacious. Our waitress was patient and gave us time to explore the menu which featured all the traditional foods choices you could expect. Our breakfast was perfect! The eggs were fluffy and I suspect not poured from a container but rather individually broken and cooked to order.
First time back in a very long time, I've probably been hitting this spot up for a good 25 years, but haven't returned since pre-pandemic. Food is still solid, though of course prices are up (just like everywhere else). The lady who rang me up was very sweet - they've always had the nicest people here, even when I was just a pup in my early 20s having a late night meal. I miss the 24hr service of yore, but I'm sure that's just not sustainable these days. The place looks a bit different, but it mostly still seems the same as ever. The sandwiches, eggs, etc. are all still as I remember... very good, I've ALWAYS loved that this is one of the few diners I know of that don't serve burnt eggs (yeah I'm picky about my eggs, I don't like sunny-side up eggs or scrambled eggs to have ANY burnt brown parts). They also have some specials they never used to have... this time around I had the beef stroganof (which is an odd thing to order at a diner like this) and it was okay. Stroganof itself tasted great, but I thought noodles were a bit overdone/soft. That said, I'm not going to ding them a star over there - I have a ton of nostalgia for this place and as one of the oldest institutions still running, I fully support them and even under new ownership I hope this place sticks around for many, many more years to come!
I heard good things about this place so I was excited to try my favorite dish, country fried steak! Unfortunately, I was pretty underwhelmed. The hash browns seemed undercooked and the country fried steak lacked flavor and was overcooked, dry and tough. However, I did like the gravy, eggs, and biscuit! The service was fast and friendly, the overall environment was pleasant and my boyfriend liked the Spanish omelette that he ordered which is why I'm giving this place a 4 star. I'll give their lunch menu a try next time!
This place still stands as one of the best breakfast spots in Contra Costa County. Daily special was , biscuits sausage patties hash browns smothered in country gravy. Not for the weak of heart. Thick, rich, cooked perfectly & home made biscuits & gravy.. perfect preparation for over eating on Thanksgiving tomorrow. 1/2 order of eggs Benedict, Spanish omelette & veggie omelette were enjoyed by my family. Always busy, great staff, food arrives hot & fast. They now take credit cards.. Go!!!
